Hound's tongue fern

Phymatosorus pustulatum (Crowe)

Microsorum diversifolium (Copel)

Kowaowao (Paraharaha)

There is some confusion over the classification of this fern as there is a variety even of the names above!. In the Mangemangeroa, particularly down by the old farm gate, there are specimens showing the rich shiny greeness of the fern. The hound's tongue fern has prominent veins, each vein apprearing to divide into two in a distinct pattern.
