Thread fern
Blechnum filiforme
Panako

This fern is named for its long thread like fertile fronds which I have yet to find in the Mangemangeroa! When growing on the ground the fronds are quite small and appear similar to the small maidenhair fern. Once the fern reaches a trunk and begins to climb toward the light the pinnae change remarkably in size. This fern contains the same drug as used to lower blood cholesterol levels! (A. Crowe) |
