Hen and chicken fern

Asplenium bulbiferum

Mouku

Recognisable by the small "chicken" ferns growing on the "hen" frond. This fern seems to grow well in the higher parts of the Reserve where it is unlikely that stock has been able to reach it. It appears similar to the fern which is growing successfully along the track edges in the more southerly end of the reserve. This could be a subspecies of A. bulbiferum as it is similar in appearance but without the young bulbils.
